Swampy.

What are you doing in my marsh? Inkbeard post #18

This Week

This week was the culmination of a few things. First was the first session a D&D group which I DM, after weeks of prepping and world building. Second (and less important) the Super Bowl also went down. As I write this it’s just about halftime, so I don’t know who will win. Honestly I’ve checked out a little because I feel sorry for the team getting creamed right now. But that’s okay, cause they’ve already won the championship twice. In other news, due to a normally busy week I didn’t have the opportunity to draw anything until this Sunday afternoon.

The Art

This week I took inspiration again from the Inktober52 prompt for this week, “Swamp”. Of course my immediate thought was Shrek yelling at Donkey, but I didn’t want to draw a meme. So I decided to draw the second most typical character of the swamp monster. I started with a sketch, and worked out the pose in only three iterations—the first idea was to have one of his arms raised, but I decided to go with arms down. Then I practiced drawing some details, such as sticks, flowers, and moss. Inking went smoothly with my small brush pen.

The looting process took the longest, as it always does, but I utilized one of the preset pallets that Procreate provides as inspiration to select my colors. This is one of my favorite pieces yet, if not my favorite. It is the one that has gone the smoothest, with the best color scheme and design. The shading on the right arm gave me some difficulty, but even that was easy to fix.

Marshy Music

While exploring for some music to jam to while coloring I can across the music genre of Swamp Rock, featuring artists such as Creedence Clearwater Revival and Kaleo. This is an interesting development because I used to listen almost exclusively to Southern Gothic, which is a very similar style. Although I probably won’t listen to it in the near future, it is helpful to have it in the peripheral.
On a side note, Kendrick something did the half-time show, introducing me to his work. I didn’t find his music appealing much, but I was reminded of my pipe dream of becoming a breakdancer.

Adios.

And we come once again to the end. I hope you enjoyed Swampy the Swamp Thing and will share your love of art in general but also Inkbeard with the greater populous. Comment about your favorite pipe dreams or about your favorite Super Bowl ad. Farewell, dear readers, until next week.
