Wizardry
When in doubt, ask a wizard. Inkbeard post #13
When in Wizard Town…
This week I have binged wizards. Personally, I am in love with them–be they Gandalf the Gray, Professor Dumbledore, or the ever-mystical Merlin, those bearded and cloaked old men hold a special place in my heart. Even the word “wizard” is a fun one. However, not all wizards look like the stereotypical old gray man with a staff and tall, pointed hat. In a recent google search, many results come up; mostly the basketball team, but also wizards young, female, futuristic, and non-human. Anything from necromancers to druids can be classified as a wizard.
The Idea
And so we come to this weeks art. If you remember, last week’s sketch involved a dot-faced man, whom I deliberated could be some sort of non-stereotypical wizard. This week, I took a sketch done in a notebook (where sketches usually make their living), scanned it into my iPad, and painted over it in Procreate. I decided that navy blue and white would suit him well as a costume and theme, but as is my habit sometimes, I went to the curves in Procreate and messed around with the color balance, churning up three of the four pictured below. I was in fact quite happy with how the painting turned out, due to my lack of practice in that discipline; I got to practice shading and lighting and all of that.
A Journey
I have pondered on the story of this man. He is on a journey to recover his lost memory and discover his purpose. His quest will take him through strange and wonderous dimensions, the topography inspired by the likes of Cosimo Galluzzi and Moebius. Many weird characters and ancient architectures. I want to include design features such as three faced watchers, impossible bridges, odd creatures, horrible monsters, floating ruins, and lots of magic. This project is going to be a large one, long in the making, and so I will place it on another backburner with the others until I am more adept at my trade.
Update and Farewell
Last week I did not quite manage to finish the thumbnails, so I will concentrate on that this week. Once finished with those, I will begin concept art and designs, then begin the editing process. March is creeping up, and I wouldn’t want to start a habit of deadline-missing. Please, go tell people about this blog. I will do my part to advertise as well, so hopefully this tiny community can grow. I will continue to bring you amazing art, as long as you keep coming back to look at it. I hope the new year finds you all well and healthy, with thinner waistlines and thicker hair. Farewell.
